Abkhazian Party Disclaims Information On Prohibition Of Georgian Language

Tbilisi. April 26 (Prime-News)  Sergey Shamba, de facto Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia disclaims the information on prohibition of
education in Georgian language in the schools in Gali District of the
Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone. The corresponding statement was made by
Mikheil Matchavariani, Vice Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia at the
Wednesday session. According to him, Irakli Alassania, Presidential
Councillor for Georgian-Abkhazian conflict Resolution has talked to Sergey
Shamba, who said that the de facto government was not going to abolish
education in Georgian language in Gali.

The Parliament of Georgia is to discuss the draft statement by the
Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, which condemns the
attempt of the Abkhazian party to abolish education in Georgian language
in the secondary schools in Gali. According to the statement, the
government of Georgia condemns facts of genocide of Georgian residents of
Gali District, including decision to abolish education in Georgian
language and urges the international commonwealth to contribute to
protection of human rights of the Georgian population.
