The Lisbon Treaty and linguistic rights, Eurolang talks to the Council
of Europe

Last week saw the signing of the Charter of Fundamental Rights as well
as the signing of the EU's new Reform Treaty, named the Lisbon Treaty.
If ratified by EU member states it will give a legal base to the new
Charter as well as enshrining respect for linguistic and cultural
diversity in EU law.

Valencian government close down Catalan TV

The government of the Valencian Autonomous Region in Spain has gone
ahead with its recent threats and shut off broadcasts of TV-3 the
Barcelona based Catalan language TV station.

Charter of Fundamental Rights solemnly proclaimed in Strasbourg

The Presidents of the Commission, European Parliament, and the Council
today signed and solemnly proclaimed the Charter of Fundamental Rights
of the European Union in Strasbourg. The Charter will be legally
binding because it is referred to in the EU Reform Treaty to be signed
in Lisbon tomorrow.
