Nevada: English Mandate Repealed
By STEVE FRIESS

The newly elected Pahrump Town Board has unanimously repealed an ordinance
passed in November that made English the town's official language. That
ordinance, which was never enforced, also denied town benefits to illegal
immigrants. Lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada
threatened a lawsuit, but four members of the board, including the three
who voted for the ordinance, left office in January.
