DAVANAGERE: The Education Department has formed five special squads to check
the violation of language policy in Kannada medium schools, apart from each
taluk BEO forming their own team to visit village schools.
According to sources of the department, two special squads in Davangere
north and south zone will visit different schools to check the medium of
instruction and another squad will tour Harihar. The district has 263
private schools, among which 28 schools lost their recognition in 2006 for
violating the language policy.Out of 28 derecognised schools, 20 schools
were rerecognised by paying the fine. Eight schools that failed to pay the
fine were derecognised, officials said.

If any private school is found violating the language policy during the
squad visit, stringent action would be initiated, an officer said.
Meanwhile, parents have complained that in some schools the managements are
distributing English books despite taking classes in Kannada medium.
