English education revamp needed for businesses

Employers are demanding better English skills to cope with new
challenges in the business environment. "Most employers want to hire
employees with ready skills as they can save costs on training and
development," a senior executive of FPT Securities Company, Nguyen Van
Dung, said. "Candidates who can speak English are given priority in
our company as our staff need good English to be able to read and
write reports in English." As the world becomes "flatter", employees
are expected to adapt to different work requirements and English is
turning from a useful skill to a prerequisite for business. According
to reports released by recruitment agencies, 48 percent of Vietnamese
companies and 95 percent of foreign companies conduct interviews in
English.
