Dear Professor Schiffman:

I am sorry to hear that you had a heart attack. I requested theAmerican Embassy to sponsor you to attend our International Conference on July 4-5, 2008, but they turned me down on the basis that Thailand is not fully democratic. Professor Bernard Spolsky is coming and also is Lo Bianco from Australia. I will keep trying to persuade the American Embassy to see whether they will change their mind.

  Sincerely,
  Udom

    Don,

Thanks; you're right that the information, especially for people who joined years ago, is not current. I sometimes update things if I get information about a change of some sort, but I often discover changes only by accident--someone moves to another institution, resubscribes, and I don't know about it unless I read through the whole dbase of 400+ members. But I don't mind the work that's involved; I wish we had funding to hire a programmer, but my efforts to get $$ have not borne fruit, and now that I'm retired (and after my recent heart attack) I've had to curtail some activities. If things get more difficult, I will have to ask someone else to take over, but for now I'm okay.

We're going to save the dbase and put it up somewhere else, where it will be safer, but for now I'm not sure where that will be. I could venture into Yahoo groups or Google groups, but I think we'd lose people who don't know how to manage that kind of stuff.

  Hal

Dear Hal, The list and website are valuable resources. My only concern is
that they both rely on one person (you) to keep them going.

• Please let me know if you personally wish this database to be somehow
available, somewhere, i.e. I need to know the following:

o Have you ever consulted it?
       Yes, but not recently

o Do you find it useful?
Yes, and I anticipate using it again, but with all databases there
is a question from the user point of view of the currency of the data, and
from the manager's p.o.v. how to maintain it.

o Do you think it has ever been compromised?
No, but that is an opinion not from extensive or recent use.

Thanks for asking and for continuing to manage CLPP.

Don
