English Language Learners perform well on state tests

Preliminary results on the Maryland State Assessments have brought
good news for Frederick County Public Schools this year. Compared to
2007, more students in total scored "proficient" or "advanced" on the
reading and math tests in every grade level. The Maryland State
Assessments measure achievement for students in grades three through
eight. Students in historically underperforming subgroups, especially
English Language Learners, have also showed significant gains. The
overall performance of these students is still lower than that of all
students in the county, but test results this year show increases and
indicate that difference in Frederick County is shrinking.
