Outsider CEO Translates a New Message

OSAKA, Japan -- Bijan Khosrowshahi, the Iranian-American chief
executive of Japan's Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance Co., is seldom
without his interpreter and a wireless headset that pipes translations
directly into his ear. Mr. Khosrowshahi, an English-speaking
insurance-industry veteran who took over Fuji in 2004, says this
seamless system for communicating with his Japanese-speaking employees
helps him blend into the company even as he works to change it. "It
has a more casual feeling," he says, from a wood-paneled suite atop
Fuji headquarters. Mr. Khosrowshahi says he'd prefer a homier office
among senior managers, but doesn't want to change too ...
