HYDERABAD: Vijayawada Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal has announced
his resolve to carry forward the movement against bifurcation of
Andhra Pradesh ‘into smaller pieces.’

He asserted that introduction of the resolution in the Assembly was
the only way to show how a ‘silent majority’ of people were against
the division of the State. “It is not a question of whether Rajagopal
continues as an MP or not. Let a resolution be introduced on separate
Telangana in the Assembly and let its outcome against the divisive
forces reverberate across the nation,” he said adding as many as 225
MLAs would vote against the resolution. Mr. Rajagopal who held
detailed discussions with Chief Minister K. Rosaiah in the presence of
Congress senior leader Manishankar Aiyer on Monday did not specify if
he would go ahead with his proposed indefinite hunger strike in
support of the united State.

He, however, said Chief Minister K. Rosaiah expressed helplessness in
introducing the resolution in the Assembly which was adjourned sine
die on Monday even though he was prepared to place a resolution before
the House. He attributed the ongoing political crisis in the State to
“only one version of the issue” that was being told to the party
leadership.
Mr. Rajagopal, who was earlier taken into preventive custody by the
police immediately after landing at the Shamshabad airport, was taken
to the Chief Minister’s residence in the afternoon amid heavy
bandobust. He expressed surprise at the way the police behaved with an
MP “who came to the city to meet the Chief Minister”.
