Another school language battle looms

Another battle between a school governing body and the Department of
Education over the right to set language policy is imminent, notes a
Beeld report.

It says the chair of the Hoërskool Hans Strijdom in Mookgophong
(Naboomspruit) refused to register 10 English-speaking pupils with the
school. This sparked a battle with the Limpopo Department of
Education, which has insisted the school incorporate English as a
language of instruction from this year. A similar battle is still on
appeal in the High Court after the principal of Hoërskool Ermelo was
sacked for refusing to alter the school's language policy last year.
