Teaching Tulu at primary level sought

Mangalore: Teaching Tulu from the primary level is necessary to
safeguard the language and culture from the onslaught of modern
culture and other languages, said Palthadi Ramakrishna Achar,
president of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.

He was speaking at `Tuluvere Ayano', Tulu folklore festival, held at
Nagabemmere Padavu in Badiyadka near here on Saturday.

Referring to the history of Tulu, he said it is an important language
of South India and one can see references to it in the Halmidi
inscription, which is considered to be the earliest historical record
available in Kannada language.
