The Department of Linguistics at SOAS is hosting its second biennial
conference on Language Documentation and Linguistic Theory on 13-14 November
2009. The website for the conference is at http://www.hrelp.org/LDLT2 (and
the conference email is ldlt2 at conferencegmail.com).

The conference aims to bring together researchers working on linguistic
theory and language documentation and description, with a particular focus
on innovative work on underdescribed or endangered languages. The theme of
the LDLT2 conference is: Linguistic theory and language documentation:
innovations, successes, and challenges. For 2009, we especially welcome
submissions addressing this theme in relation to languages of Africa.

The plenary speakers are: Prof. Larry M. Hyman, University of California,
Berkeley; and Prof. Tania Kuteva, SOAS/Heinrich Heine Universität, Düsseldorf.

Abstracts are invited for 20 minute papers followed by 10 minutes of
discussion. Each individual may present up to one single authored paper and
one joint paper. Abstracts should be anonymous, 11pt font or larger, and one
page in length, including references and examples. They should be in .doc or
.pdf format (but not .docx format) and the filename should start with LDLT2,
followed by an underscore and then first authors' surname, e.g.
LDLT2_ashmore.pdf. If you have a common surname, please also include
initials, e.g. LDLT2_jjones.pdf. We invite contributions relating to any
aspect of the study of language and linguistics from any perspective,
including: formal theoretical issues; typology; documentary linguistics and
responses to language endangerment; new techniques and opportunities for
documenting and describing languages; historical linguistics; discourse, and
narrative structure. Abstracts should be submitted via the LDLT2 EasyAbs
site at http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/LDLT2. The deadline for
abstract submission is 3 May 2009. Applicants will be notified of abstract
acceptance by Monday 1 June 2009.
