Subject: South African Language Rights Monitor 2006

The South African Language Rights Monitor 2006 was recently launched
on the Main Campus of the University of the Free State. The latest
report – like the previous ones – comprises a detailed analysis of the
media coverage of language issues. It covers the period 1 January to
31 December 2006. The main focus of the Monitor is on language rights
issues and other language-related problems such as place name changes,
as well as the language promotion. Furthermore, the report provides an
overview of the year's language litigation and formal language
complaints lodges with mandated language authorities in South Africa.
