Improving her Welsh has really 'opened doors' for teacher Catherine Jones

Improving her Welsh language skills has created opportunities for
Catherine Jones and the school where she teaches.

Catherine, 35, is now the Welsh language specialist at Mount Airey
Infants School, Haverfordwest and has been appointed to an all-Wales
panel producing Foundation Phase learning materials in Welsh.

Both opportunities have arisen since she took advantage of the Welsh
Language Sabbaticals Scheme at Cardiff University last summer.
Supported by the Welsh Assembly Government, the intensive 12-week
course is designed to provide both permanent and supply education and
training workers with the skills to teach bilingually or through the
medium of Welsh with confidence. Courses are also run at Bangor
University and there is an option of studying by distance learning.
