Call for Papers



The Wesley College Institute will host the 2010 Global Language
Convention in Melbourne, Australia, from 8 - 11 April 2010.  The theme
for the convention is 'Many Cultures, One Community: Language, Knowing
and Power.'



We invite interested teachers, academics, policy makers, school
administrators/ leaders, language experts, enthusiasts and
practitioners etc. in the field of language and learning to submit
presentation proposals for the convention.  To make a formal
submission, please download and complete a presenter's form from
https://intranet.wesleycollege.net/v3/app2/files/Presenters%20Application%20Form.doc



Proposals should arrive by email institute at wesleycollege.net or post
to The Wesley College Institute, 577 St Kilda Road, Melbourne  Vic
3004, Australia for the attention of Rebecca Knight,.  Applications
should arrive no later than 31 October 2009.    Successful applicants
will be notified by 15 November 2009.



Presentations should relate to the overall theme of the convention,
and may be based on evidence gained from research or other projects
already completed, information about on-going programmes or ideas for
innovative schemes or topics for future exploration. Preference will
be given to submissions that address issues relating to the following
sub themes:



>>From Text to Message - Literature, media & communication cultures for C21 Learning



Language Loss and Reclamation



Taking responsibility for the 2nd Language Learner in the Mainstream
Language Environment - challenges, issues and trends in EAL, EFL, ESL
etc



The Brain, Learning and Language - traversing the journey from myth
through policy development to implementation



Multilingual matters - beyond making the case for learning more than
one language



Defining, Developing, Refining, Maintaining the Mother Tongue



'Every teacher is a language teacher' - critical issues in managing
language and learning in schools



Presenters will be allotted 45 minute sessions: 30 minutes
presentation + 15 minutes for questions.



Appropriate papers will be forwarded to suitable journals including
'Teacher', 'The Australian Journal of Education' and 'Babel' if
requested.  Papers submitted will be considered for publication under
the normal editorial procedures.
