President gives away Raj Bhasha awards on Hindi Diwas

The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil today gave away
awards for the commendable work in Rajbhasha on the Hindi Diwas today.
 Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Puraskars 2007-08 were presented to 33
organizations in ten different categories. 14 awards were presented in
four different categories for journals and house journals.
For the House journals, Bharat Sandarsh brought out by the Ministry of
External Affairs and ‘Vimanika’ of the Air India bagged first prize in
the Ministry/Department and public sector undertakings category.  In
the category Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Puraskar for original writing in
Hindi, Dr. Om Prakash Bharati was presented the first prize for his
book ‘Bihar ke Paramparik Natya’.



The President in her address exhorted all to use Hindi in their
interaction and communication. She further said that the use of Hindi
is progressively increasing in different areas. The full text of

The Union Home Minister Shri P. Chidambaram in his address said that
for further development of Hindi – or for that matter of any language
– we should not hesitate to adopt commonly used and popular words of
other Indian and foreign languages. He further said that
implementation of different schemes of the Government of India we have
to reach the people and communicate with them in their own language.
He further said that the Official Language Policy of the Government is
based on inspiration, incentive and goodwill.



Shri Ajay Makan, MoS (Home) in his speech said that Hindi is even now
recognized all over the world and is one of the languages spoken the
most in the world.  He said that there is a need for enhanced use of
Hindi in the scientific and technical areas also. Under the Official
Language Policy, several promotional schemes have been implemented and
the Department of languages is doing good job in this respect.  The
Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Ramachandran was also present
on the occasion. Secretary, Official Languages Dr. Pradeep Kumar made
a presentation on the occasion.
