Linguistic Field(s): Translation

Call Deadline: 15-Jun-2010

Meeting Description:

The Chalermprakiat Centre of Translation and Interpretation (CCTI), Faculty
of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok is pleased to announce its first
international conference on translation and interpretation, to be held at the
Imperial Queen's Park Hotel on 1-3 November, 2010.

The conference aims to promote translation and interpretation as an
emerging field in Thailand, and to encourage an exchange of ideas among
translation and interpretation scholars as well as practitioners from across
the world. Papers are invited on all aspects of translation and interpretation.

Twenty-first century Thailand sees a growing need for translation as a
result of globalization and the advent of cyberspace. The Free Trade
Agreement between Asian countries to be signed in 2010 will likely increase
trade activities, but this may be hampered by communication breakdowns
stemming from differences in linguistic and cultural background. Translators
and interpreters therefore play an important role in intercultural
communication and in fostering good relations between peoples.

With Translation Studies a relatively new field in Thailand, the conference
will serve as a forum for an exchange of ideas among scholars, translators
and interpreters from across the globe.
