Samoan language under threat in New Zealand

Our third most spoken language is under threat, with English
"encroaching" on Samoan in the church and home.

Victoria University student Salainaoloa Wilson's masters thesis shows
Samoan is being taught less in traditional strongholds.

Kiwi-born Ms Wilson, 26, whose first language is Samoan, delved into
the subject after the 2006 census showed the percentage of New
Zealand-born Samoan speakers dropped four percentage points, to 44 per
cent, in five years.
