NATIVE AMERICAN PRE-CONFERENCE LANGUAGE INSTITUTE:
NATIVE LANGUAGE ISSUES IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

This special Institute will be held prior to the annual La Cosecha
Dual Language Conference taking
place in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

PLACE: SANTA FE SWEENY CONVENTION CENTER, 401 W. MARCY ST.
DATE: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2010
TIME: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Join us in a special Institute focused on current issues and trends in
New Mexico early childhood
education and the implications for Native American language
communities. The Institute will feature
keynote speaker, Dr. Mary Eunice Romero-Little from Arizona State
University, who will address
issues of Native language development in early childhood. Our sessions
will also highlight
community-based efforts to plan and implement early childhood language
immersion initiatives with a
call to action regarding current early childhood issues in New Mexico.
Language teaching alumni
from the annual Summer Native American Language Teachers’ Institute
(NALTI) have been invited to
share their teaching and NALTI training experiences through poster
sessions. Tribal leaders, tribal
education program planners, early childhood program directors and
staff, parents, language advisory
teams, tribal community members and Native language teachers are
especially encouraged to attend.
