France Against English Language Policy for Toddlers
[..]

French people are very fanatical about their national language. For
them, there is nothing as good as the French language. So, do not be
surprised if they are angry when their president took the initiative
about the program to introduce the foreign languages to toddlers.
According to the Daily Mail, Sunday, January 30, 2011, Sarkozy wants
French children to learn English since the age of three years. so that
their childhood has been trained to converse in English, which has
become a medium of international communication in many countries.

However, some people in France are against the policy. They consider
that Sarkozy’s plan will harm French pride, and potentially eliminate
the national language. Some linguists in France said that, rather than
teach English, Sarkozy should focus on efforts to promote their own
language.
As reported by The Telegraph, language observers named Eric Zemmour
says that the average of French people is speaking bad english.
However, it is proof that they are just being patriotic.

France pride and nationalism in native language is famous since
ancient times. In modern times, the pride of the French people for
their language, remained exist since World War II. The great leader of
France at the time, General Charles de Gaulle, was never spoke in
English for the sake of principle. In fact, the language was used by
the warlords of the ally countries such as France, Britain and the
United States, to communicate when discussed strategy to defeat German
Nazi.

Even Former French President, Jacques Chirac, dared to leave the
courtroom in the middle of a meeting in Brussels, Belgium. The reason,
a panelist at the time was spoke in English. Thus, some analysts
believe that Sarkozy’s suggestion as a way to cover up weaknesses in
the language. Last month, an opposition socialist leader, Francois
Loncie, issued a statement that Sarkozy had been harassing the French
language. Sarkozy judged not understand French grammar and frequent
use of vulgar expressions.

Some others say that Sarkozy’s plan is also a form of frustration
because he himself was not fluent in English. Sarkozy mentioned does
not understand jokes issued by some state leaders at an event that
uses the English language.
