BANGALORE: Making Kannada a compulsory subject from class one to four,
imposing ban on dubbing of other language films into Kannada,
conferring an honorary doctorate on Kannada writer and historian M
Chidananda Murthy were part of the nine resolutions adopted by the
77th All-India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana here on Sunday.

Reading out the resolutions adopted at the end of the three-day meet,
honorary treasurer of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Pundalika Halambi
said the state government should on priority bring out a uniform
education policy and make Kannada mandatory in all schools from class
one to four in Karnataka.

The resolution urges the Centre to implement the tri-language
education policy that seeks to educate children in their mother
tongue, English and a regional language spoken in their respective
areas. The sammelana views this as a solution for the possible ethnic
crisis in future.

Another resolution says a strong 'No' to dubbing films: the government
should bring out stringent law to end the dubbing of other language
films into Kannada. "Unlike others, Kannada industry had kept itself
away from dubbing menace for the last 40 years. It's high time we
restricted dubbing. If done, it gives ample opportunity to local
people to prove their talent," Kananda Sahitya Parishat president
Nallur Prasad said.
