Minister of National Languages and Social integration, Vasudeva
Nanayakkara has instructed the National Languages Department to put
the National Language Policy into action. A training programme to
reduce the shortage of translators will commence next month.
Successful applicants have already been registered for this program.
Minister Nanayakkara says all officials in Government Institutions
should be able to converse in at least 2 main languages. He added that
the Government hopes to protect the right of citizens to conduct their
affairs in the language of their choice.
