Latino Applications Surge at U. of California

January 14, 2011, 2:18 pm

If current trends continue, Latino students will soon make up a
plurality of applicants to the University of California, surpassing
Asian-American and white students within a few years. Freshman
applications from Latino students grew by 18 percent over 2010, while
Latino transfer applications grew by 26 percent, according to data on
applications for admission in the fall of 2011 released by the system
on Friday. However, applications from black students declined slightly
at the system’s flagship campuses, in Berkeley and Los Angeles.
