Commissioner of official languages J.C.Ranepura says the official
language policy will be properly implemented to enhance mutuality
between the ethnic communities in the country. According to the
official language policy state institutes should provide services to
each person through his or her mother-tongue. Participating in a
programme in the SLBC Mr. Ranepura stated that a special commission
has been appointed to investigate into the complaints submitted by the
public on incidents of violations of language policy. Employees of the
public sector are provided with language training by the National
Languages Education and Training Institute. The institute provides
training for about 15 thousand employees annually. Chairman of the
institute Seetha Vithanachchi said the amount is to be increased upto
15 thousand in the future. Project coordinator of the Ministry of
National Languages and Social Integration G.V.D.Thilakasiri said a
programme has been implemented to train translators.
