The Basque Advisory Council has reviewed the old General Plan for the
Promotion and Use of Basque, and has agreed the basis for language
policy in the coming years. The General Plan has been the benchmark
for the past 12 years.

According to the Deputy Minister Lurdes Auzmendi, "There are sound
theoretical bases. It is time to implement these rules. We are at a
critical juncture, it is time to move from words to deeds".

The plan will now focus on analyzing various issues, including the
transmission of Basque through education, adult literacy and families,
the use of Basque in administration, the media and in ICT; use in the
workplace, in leisure, sport and religion.
