Meeting Description:

Between Tradition and Change: The Future of English in the Light of
Globalization, Transculturalism and Internationalization

This conference will address English Studies as a discipline in
transition and reflect on where it has been and where it is going.
With the meteoric rise of English globally, the language is studied
and used by as many as 2 billion speakers, and English Studies
departments now teach such varied subjects as communications,
discourse and rhetoric, language, literature, and film representing
English language usage and texts across the globe. The study of
classical English texts might be declining, but that slack has been
taken up by other areas and endeavors, creating numerous challenges
and opportunities.

Subthemes of the Conference:

- Tradition and Its Discontents.
Keynote: Peter Harder, Copenhagen University. Traditions and Its Discontents.
See abstract and CV on homepage.

- Language, Culture, and Discourse
