Policy okayed to start Chinese language

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has approved the
policy to introduce Chinese language as a subject from class-VI to XII
at all public and private institutions of the province. According to
details, the Chinese language classes will be started from class-VI to
class-VIII in first phase, as a non-credit subject, replacing Arabic,
Persian languages, which would be switched over to class-III to V from
the academic session 2012-13.

It has been decided that the students who will take subject of Chinese
language, incentive will be given to the students such as stipends,
scholarship, recreational trips, supply of free books etc. It was also
decided that by the passage of time, the system as well as human
resources will also be developed, and then the Chinese language will
get the status of compulsory subject.

According to policy, in second phase, the Chinese language will be
introduced from class-IX (Ninth) to class-XII (Twelve) and those
students learning Chinese language from class-VI to VIII from session
2012-13 will embark to class-IX to XII during the session 2015-16, and
there will be examination for them through Board, and 20 marks will be
given as an incentive on the pattern of erstwhile the National Cadet
Corps (NCC).
Later, the Chinese language as a subject will also be added and
introduced at University level (Under-Graduation and Graduate
programmes) and research work could also be started with passage of
time, as well as public and private universities would be requested to
establish Chinese language faculty. The policy further envisages that
the universities seeking charter shall have Chinese faculty.
It was decided that initially, the teaching of Chinese language would
be started in public and private cluster schools in each district of
the province.

The resources person, who will train the Master Trainers, may be
arranged with coordination, cooperation and help of China Embassy and
Consulate etc, while for Master Trainer’s, preference will be given to
English language teachers of Secondary and Higher Secondary schools,
and would be given incentives, such as appreciation certificates,
visit of China, foreign trainings, stipend and honorarium etc. The
policy further evolved the aims and objectives of the project and thus
the training centres at the divisional headquarters will be selected,
and centres from cluster schools in each district of province will
also be selected.

According to project, the resource person, teaching, learning,
manuals, materials such as compact disks (CDs), DVDs, Interpretation
Micro-Phones etc; monitoring and evolution process of the programme,
while the curriculum of basis skills of Chinese language will have to
be developed and included in the list of index, function of Bureau of
Curriculum for preliminary to higher classed. It was decided that the
books would be printed/arranged by Sindh Text Book Board.
