Bucs’ Edwards to be awarded Fulbright Grant

By BDN staff | Posted: Thursday, April 26, 2012 4:00 pm

Beloit College senior Amani Edwards will pack her bags and head to
Russia in September after earning a prestigious Fulbright Grant to be
an English Teaching Assistant for a year.

Edwards, a two-sport standout for the Bucs, will be in Russia through
May of 2013. She will conduct research on ethnic minority groups and
language policy.

Last fall, Edwards served as captain for the Buccaneer volleyball
team. She is also a captain of the track and field team this spring.
She is currently ranked fifth in the Midwest Conference in both the
shot put and the hammer throw.

Edwards, from Atlanta, Ga., won both events at last Saturday’s Beloit Open.

The Fulbright program is the largest U.S. International exchange
program. It offers opportunities for students, scholars and
professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced
research, university teaching and teaching in elementary and secondary
schools.

Established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress, the program was proposed to
the U.S. Congress in 1945 by then freshman Senator J. William
Fulbright.
