The Law “On Principles of State Language Policy” must ensure equality of
languages

The Law “On Principles of State Language Policy” must ensure equality of
languages in Ukraine that’s why it will be improved if may be necessary. It
was stated by the President in the course of communication with journalists
in Sevastopol.

“The time will pass and we will see the advantages and disadvantages. It is
not a dogma. We will make some amendments to this Law if may be necessary,”
the President said.

Viktor Yanukovych reminded that the Law has just entered into force, that’s
why it is too early to make some conclusions. “One thing is clear – we are
gradually moving towards the European Charter on Languages and it is very
important,” the President noted.

The President emphasized that the relevant working group containing the
authors of the law on languages and “people who wanted to work on its
improvement” has already been established. “The Law must provide equality
of languages in Ukraine in order to eliminate problems in any region and
meet the standards of the European Charter,” the President said.
