Tymoshenko Tasks BYuT With Blocking Second Reading Of Language Policy Law
(18:28, Tuesday, June 19, 2012)

Yulia Tymoshenko, former prime minister, leader of the All-Ukrainian
Union Batkivschyna, has tasked the Tymoshenko - Batkivschyna bloc
faction in the Verkhovna Rada with blocking the second reading of
draft law No. 9073 "On Principles of State Language Policy", the
faction's press-service said in the press-release referring to Serhii
Sas, deputy head of the faction, who had met the former prime
minister.

"Tymoshenko fully relies on the faction leadership and has instructed
it to be united and monolithic ... and did everything possible to
oppose the adoption of the language bill," Sas emphasized.

According to the parliamentarian, Tymoshenko feels outrage over the
situation in the faction when draft law No. 9073 was being voted in
the first reading, and urges the people's deputies to stop infighting
which would play into enemies' hands.
As Ukrainian News reported, Tymoshenko is calling on the Ukrainians
not to fall into hysterics with the adoption of the first reading of
the draft law on language policy June 5.

Oleksandr Yefremov, head of the Party of Regions faction in the
Verkhovna Rada, supposes the Parliament would adopt second reading of
the draft law on language policy on July 4 - 5. The opposition intends
to prevent its adoption. The draft law provides official use of
regional languages in the work of local governments if at least 10% of
language speakers live there.
