ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR PROFESSOR -- BILINGUAL EDUCATION

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The Department of Teacher Education at The
University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applicants for an Associate
Professor or Professor in Bilingual Education, tenure-track appointment to
begin fall 2013. The successful candidate will assume a range of
responsibilities including the following:  (1) teaching graduate and
undergraduate courses in bilingual education, including online instruction;
(2) continuing to develop a sustained record of research and scholarship;
 (3) directing graduate research; (4) participating in broad-based
university, college, and departmental committee work; (5) contributing to
advising at the undergraduate, master?s and doctoral levels; and (6)
writing competitive grants to achieve external funding.

THE DEPARTMENT:  Teacher Education has undergraduate and master?s program
in bilingual education and a new Ph.D. program in Teaching, Learning and
Culture with a strand in biliteracy.   The department offers opportunities
for research and collaboration with dual language programs in the school
districts, Mexican, and other Latin American institutions.  The College of
Education is seeking applicants who are committed to excellence in
teaching, research, service, and partnerships with K-12 schools, community
colleges, and faculty in the Arts and Sciences.

ABOUT UTEP:  The University of Texas at El Paso is an emerging national
research university at the heart of the U.S.-Mexico border region committed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants should have the following:  (1) an
earned doctorate in Bilingual Education or a specialization in Bilingual
Education, or a related field relevant to the education of English language
learners, including second language acquisition, educational linguistics or
language and biliteracy education; (2) a demonstrated record of
high-quality research and the potential to achieve funding from competitive
grants; (3) substantial experience as a practicing K-12 educator or as a
researcher who has taught teachers to teach English language minority
students in K-12 settings; (4) excellent teaching and mentoring skills
appropriate to teaching and advising students in the
doctoral/masters/undergraduate programs; and (5) ability to work
collaboratively with other faculty and professionals.

SALARY:  Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The Department of Teacher Education invites
applications for an Assistant/Associate, tenure-track, nine month position
in Literacy Education to begin fall 2013. The successful candidate will
teach graduate and undergraduate courses, direct graduate research, seek
external funding for research, and contribute to teaching and advising at
the undergraduate, master?s, and doctoral levels.

THE COLLEGE:  The College of Education, one of the seven colleges and
schools at UTEP, enrolls approximately 2,421 students, including over 1,400
pursuing undergraduate degrees and almost 1,000 enrolled in graduate
programs.  The College enjoys accreditation by the Texas Education Agency
and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and employs fifty
full-time faculty members.  The College was ranked No. 1 in the nation in
2011 by The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine for bachelor?s
degrees awarded to Hispanics.  The hallmark of the College is its work in
the community, namely its strong partnerships with local school districts,
non-profit organizations, El Paso Community College and various other
collaborators.  The College also plays an important role in moving UTEP
toward its goal of designation as a Tier One Research University through
its commitment to external grants, such as those from the US Department of
Education and the National Science Foundation. Known for its innovation and
