The School of Teaching & Learning is seeking a nine-month, full-time,
tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with a record of scholarship
and a program of research with a focus on bilingualism and biliteracy in
early childhood / elementary education.  In particular we are looking for
candidates who focus on young children¹s development of biliteracy and
bilingualism across classroom, family, and community contexts.  We seek a
colleague with a background in language and literacy development, the
ethnography of communication, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics,
linguistic anthropology, child language development, or related fields.

The School of Teaching and Learning values collaborative scholarship among
colleagues within the School, the College, and across the University.  The
person in this position will seek and establish strong ties with colleagues
within and across the College and University as well as with educators in
local school districts and early childhood centers. The School has a
commitment to scholarship, teaching and service that emphasizes social
justice, diversity, and educational equity.

Preferred qualifications include candidates who are bilingual and biliterate
in Spanish and English, who have experience working in or with urban schools
and communities, who have experience employing advanced technologies in
their teaching and scholarship, and who have experience as a teacher of
young children.

Duties include: research, teaching and service; collaborating with
colleagues to expand world class scholarship agendas that focus on current
and important educational issues; providing leadership to the growth of
undergraduate and graduate research initiatives including collaboration with
Pre-K-12 schools and other centers; working with and mentoring doctoral
students; acting as a resource to School of Teaching and Learning colleagues
with an interest in literacy education, multilingualism, early childhood /
elementary education; developing on-line courses that enable further access
to courses related to bilingualism and biliteracy, urban education,
diversity and equity; attracting and mentoring outstanding students from
around the world; other duties as assigned.
