mplement language policy

By Umesh Moramudali

The Ministry of National Language and Social Integration is to get the
support of Tamil and Muslim Parliamentarians to expand the usage of
the Tamil language at government institutions.

Writing a letter to Tamil and Muslim MPs, Minister of National
Language and Social Integration, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, requested them
to report government or semi-government institutions, which do not use
the Tamil language. He has said the ministry will take steps against
those institutions.

He also said the MPs will be updated about the action taken to provide
services in Tamil. Speaking to Ceylon Today, spokesman for the
ministry, Mahendra Harischandra said the ministry is taking steps to
resolve the issues people have to encounter due to the language
barrier and this is one such step.
