Thanks Hal, and hello everyone. See, this is what you get when you send regular rambling blithering
emails to listservs -- you get power!!

Ahem... in fact, as Hal points out, due to technical bedevilments and encumbrances, I can't actually
do anything like approve members or kick anyone out. In fact my membership status hasn't technically
changed at all. Hal has simply asked me to stand in for him in collecting and distributing regular
updates about language policy developments around the world. Put another way, my role here is Acting
Spammer in Chief.

Now, with great power comes great responsibility, so I hope only to provide you with relevant,
timely and informative emails. I do have a heavy head cold though, so if I accidentally email along
my shopping list then please forgive me.
