Letter: STM’s language policy is sickening

Montreal Gazette January 10, 2013

It’s sickening that the STM in Montreal only offers one language,
French, when many citizens are bilingual or English. Montreal is the
most multicultural cities in Quebec!

Many employees know English, yet refuse to use the language. Why
bother to refuse to speak to their clients in a language that they
will understand more clearly? Is it the pride and history the French
language that prevents these French Quebecers from speaking English?

Refusing to serve their customers because of a language is pointless
since they may lose customers. Quebec’s main language may be French,
but Canada’s are both French and English, and its people should be
able to use both anywhere in its country.
