The Language of Medicine: Science, Practice and Academia
An International Conference hosted by CERLIS 
University of Bergamo, Italy
19-21 June 2014

Medical discourse is a source of many insights for linguists and historians alike. In order to explore the interrelations between language and medicine (viewed as a confluence of science, practice and academia), CERLIS will host an International Conference in 2014 open to scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds. 

Plenary lectures will be delivered by the following keynote speakers:

Greg Myers, University of Lancaster, United Kingdom
Fran�oise Salager-Meyer, Universidad de Los Andes, M�rida, Venezuela
Srikant Sarangi, Cardiff University, United Kingdom
Paola De Castro, Research Director, Istituto Superiore di Sanit�, Italy 

Call for Papers:

Abstracts and presentations should reflect at least one of the following conference themes:

History and development of the language of medicine 
Medical and healthcare terminology 
Medical discourse 
Communication in medicine and healthcare 
Cultural aspects related to the language of medicine 
Ethics of medical communication 
Pragmatic aspects of the language of medicine 
The translation of medical texts

Colleagues planning to give a paper should submit a 300-word abstract of their proposal, specifying: the title of their presentation and the conference theme, their full name and institutional affiliation, and a postal and email address for correspondence.

Deadlines to Remember:

Submission of abstracts: No later than 31 October 2013
Notification of acceptance: 30 November 2013
Early registration: No later than 31 January 2014
Standard registration: No later than 30 April 2014
Late registration: No later than 10 June 2014
