[lg policy] Rejected postings to lgpolicy-list

All:

Recently a number of you have reported to me that they have tried to post
messages on lgpolicy-list, only to receive a rejection notice from
Linguist-List, saying that they are not authorized to post on
Linguist-List. What is happening here is that Linguist-List archives all
our messages, but not usually until the messages have been sent to all the
members. In these few cases, Linguist-List somehow reacts too early, and
rejects the message as if it had been sent directly to them, not to
lgpolicy-list. I have tried in the past to clear this up, but never got a
satisfactory answer from Linguist-List on how to deal with this problem.

In recent rejections, the message actually went through even though the
sender thought it didn't; that is why you have seen some messages arrive in
duplicate (I re-sent the original after having been informed by the sender
that it was rejected.)

So please be patient if you receive such a rejection. Let me know, and
then let's wait and see if your message goes through, and then we can just
ignore the rejection notice.

Yours,

HS
