Welcome one, welcome all to 2016, a new year full of sociolinguistic events! The
first event in the calendar is already underway, the 12th International Conference on
Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research, at the Melbourne Convention Centre,
Australia - http://www.tislr12.org/.

January has 9 events listed, February has 13, March has 10, and then as usual it gets
busier as conference season ramps up, with 33 events in April, 21 in May, 27 in June,
and so on. More may be added yet!

Remember you can view the calendar any time at http://www.baal.org.uk/slxevents.html,
where you can also subscribe using your own Google Calendar account, or any other
compatible calendar (e.g. Apple Calendar). It's a busy calendar so you may like to
toggle it on and off in your calendar menu.

If you have an event you'd like adding, feel free to contact me or any of the other
moderators listed on the above web page. It's worth being on the calendar since we're
now the number 1 Google hit for 'sociolinguistic events'. And it's not just
conferences we list - we have summer schools, workshops, public lectures, and plenty
else besides. We haven't so far had a sociolinguistic Easter egg hunt, but yours
could be the first!

And if you're planning an event, remember to read the results of the survey we
conducted last year: https://www.academia.edu/14266444/. Lots of useful lessons!

Last but by no means least, if you'd like to volunteer to be part of the calendar
moderating team, please do get in touch. It usually takes up about half an hour per
week, and in return you receive the notable prestige of being part of the one and
only Sociolinguistic Events Calendar! This invitation is very much open to
postgraduate students and linguists outside academia.

Happy eventing everyone :)

Dave (on behalf of the moderators)
