[lg policy] gendered online abuse example

Hi all,

A friend of mine who's a stand-up comedian gets a lot of online abuse (depressingly
common for more or less all high-profile women), and she had a really nasty one on 30
April. She's managing it all well, but I thought this one could be useful for many of
you in illustrating gendered online abuse in teaching and/or research. The first
tweet thread was here:

https://twitter.com/JosieLong/status/726368251991719937

(The photo is a collage with one of her online promo photos in the bottom right, and
the rest a load of murder victims. Super creepy to say the least.)

As I say she gets loads of this sort of thing, but this was a particularly grim
example so she decided to take it to the police. She mentioned it again later the
same day:

Then she reported back about the toothless police response here:

So those examples together could form useful discussion points or illustrative
examples. She has other tweets about online abuse occasionally - very restrained
really given the amount of it she gets - so you may like to follow her for further
examples. And as always the subsequent replies and spinoff discussions are of similar
interest. And besides that she's a very uplifting tweeter, so worth following her in
general!

And if you'd like to see Josie perform (she's really very funny and insightful) her
tour dates are here: https://www.ents24.com/uk/tour-dates/josie-long. She also
mentions most of her dates on Twitter, though usually at shorter notice.
