*‘Have written to CBSE about teaching Kannada’*

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait has written to the
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) about the need for affiliated
schools to teach Kannada as a language.

M. Srinivasan, president of the Managements of Independent CBSE Schools’
Association, said many CBSE schools were in a fix as to how they should
accommodate Kannada as a subject. The language policy, which has got the
President’s nod, states that CBSE schools should teach Hindi as the second
language, but the State government has been pushing for Kannada.

Mr. Srinivasan pointed out that with English as the first language, there
was confusion among school managements about what the second language
should be
