 “One bullet, een boer”: DA to lay incitement charges for Hoerskool
Overvaal post

Hoerskool Overvaal is once again in the spotlight, this time, as the
Democratic Alliance announce their intention to lay charges over a Facebook
post referencing the school.

Hoerskool Overvaal is one of the many currently divisive issues in South
Africa. With anything divisive, tempers can boil over and things can easily
turn violent, sadly, protests against the school’s language policy haven’t
been any different.

While the physical protest has led to arrests, the Democratic Alliance(DA)
is going after one social media user for comments he made while checking in
on Facebook at the school.

The party has announced that DA Emfuleni Caucus Leader, Dady Mollo,
Emfuleni Constituency Chairperson, Isabel Lot and DA Ward 45
Councillor, Elize Aucamp will lay charges of incitement of violence against
social media user, Aubery Thamasanqa Mabele.

In his Facebook post, Mabele called on President Zuma to “give him a gun to
defend our democracy”, “… one bullet, een Boere kind”.

In the past two weeks, tensions have run high at the school over the
admission of 55 non-Afrikaans speaking pupils.

The DA has called for the situation at the school to be resolved with the
law.

“The dispute between Hoërskool Overvaal and the Gauteng Department of
Education is currently on appeal at the Constitutional Court and the rule
of law must be allowed to take its course.”

“Incitement to cause violence based on language must not be condoned. The
rights of all South Africans as enshrined in our Constitution must be
respected.”

The charges will be laid on Thursday morning at Vereeniging Police Station.

The situation at the school remains tense as Basic Education Minister Angie
Motshekga held meetings with the school and various stakeholders in an
attempt to resolve the situation and get rid of protesters.

All parties have said the safety of the pupils must be guaranteed at all
times.
