SIVASAGAR: “The Axam Xahitya Xabha has been proactively pursuing the 1960’s
language policy and has consistently been urging the government to
implement it, if it respects the State
<https://www.sentinelassam.com/north-east-india-news/assam-news/> language
at all.” This was stated by Hridayananda Gogoi, convener of the central
committee for Implementation of Mother Tongue and State Language, at a
meeting at the Rangpur Xahitya Xabha in Sivasagar on Sunday. Addressing the
meeting, Gogoi said that the Xabha had never pressed for imposing Assamese
on other languages, rather it had demanded use of different ethnic
languages in the tribal autonomous areas and Bengali in the Barak Valley.

He added that the Xahitya Xabha, under the leadership of Dr Paramananda
Rajbongshi, had signed an MoU with all universities in Assam, except the
Kaziranga University, to practically implement the language policy. The
Xabha, through a release, urged all to use the mother tongue at home and
offices, business establishments and public transport. The Xabha has also
demanded the appointment of Assamese-medium teachers in all KVs, CBSE and
SEBA-affiliated English-medium schools. Hemen Hazarika, coordinator of the
language implementation committee, said that the primary units of the Xabha
should begin the work of language implementation locally.
