The Verkhovna Rada recently considered the law “On ensuring the functioning
of the Ukrainian language as a state language” in its second reading. The
law states that the only official language in Ukraine is Ukrainian – and it
is obligatory for state authorities to use it in the public sphere
throughout the country. Maksym Kobieliev, member of the Expert Group on
Language Policy under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, tells more.
