Canada’s efforts to increase immigration are meeting a mixed response in
Quebec, where provincial identity has long been perceived as under
threat...For decades, public debates on immigration in the province have
been fuelled by the fear that newcomers would hasten the decline of French,
representing both a linguistic loss and a profound cultural shift.
