In a bid to implement the State Language Policy, the State Language Commission is to commence Tamil language training programmes for police service in the coming weeks. The State Language Commission yesterday announced that in a bid to create awareness on implanting the State Language Policy, the training programmes will be held targeting selected government official attached to the police service.

To initiate this, selected officers from the three police divisions of Kurunegala, Gampaha and Mirihana (Colombo South) will be summoned for special training sessions. According to Chairman State Language Commission Raja Kollure the chief motive of these training programmes is to enable the police officers in speech, reading and writing of the Tamil language as well as to enhance their fluency in the written language.

As a result a special programme will be commenced on September 11 at the In-service Training Centre of the Kurunegala Police Division targeting a group of selected police officers. Another programme will take place at Mirihana Police In-service Training Centre on September 16 for a selected group. Meanwhile a batch of policemen who successfully completed their training is to pass out in Gampaha Police Division today.
