Book of Facts on the Irish Language<br>

An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen T.D. last night officially launched the book
'More Facts about Irish' by well known author, Helen Ó Murchú
at the National Library of Ireland.<br>
<br>
Published by the Irish Committee of the European Bureau for
Lesser-Used Languages, the book provides an invaluable source of
accurate information for the interested public, journalists, students,
even politicians and policy makers.<br>
<br>
'More Facts about Irish' is divided into eight sections covering
history, the present language community, State provision for Irish,
education, social life, economic life, the voluntary sector and the
Irish language in Northern Ireland and is written in English with a
final summary in Irish. Beautifully designed, containing tables,
illustrations and with accompanying compact disc, it covers a broad
range of material, literally something for all interests.<br>

Speaking at the launch, An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, T.D. commented; 'I
am very pleased to have been invited to launch 'More Facts About
Irish' by Helen Ó Murchú. Not only is the book an interesting
read, it is also a valuable handbook on all aspects of the Irish
language. This Government is firmly committed to the development of
the Irish language as a living, daily language.'<br>

Production of the book was part-funded by Foras na Gaeilge and is

About the Author:</font></div>
<div><font face="Lucida Grande" color="#000000">Helen Ó Murchú was
born in Rathkeele, Co. Limerick and studied in UCC, De Paul
University, Chicago and Trinity College Dublin. She has devoted her
life to all levels of Irish-language education, Helen Ó Murchú was
a founding chairperson of An Comhchoiste Réamhscolaíochta, and has
spent time as the Chairperson of Bord na Gaeilge, and as the President
of Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge.</font></div>
