Just off the cuff, I would understand a hypothesis to be a proposition considered to be in need of further testing and potential falsification, while a principle is a generalization that is considered settled. Examples of linguistic principles would be: the Merge Principle; the Move principle; the Projection principle; and so on.<BR>

An example of a hypothesis might be: the creole origins of AAVE.<BR>
