Welsh Language Policy

The Welsh Assembly Government's Flexible Support for Business (FS4B) Supersite provides the most comprehensive, relevant and advanced on line support available to businesses in Wales. This includes support available from the Welsh Assembly Government, UK Government (working with businesslink.gov.uk) and partners in one place for the first time. The Site also supports bilingual provision with the result that more Government online business support is available in Welsh than ever before, and with levels set to increase significantly in 2010 and beyond.

In line with the Assembly Government's Welsh Language Scheme all Assembly Government content and services will be published bilingually. We are also committed to translate all general content that does not have a Government "owner". 49% of this has been translated already and the remainder will be translated by the end of 2010.

Services and interfaces provided by UK Government bodies should be available in English and Welsh as required by the relevant Welsh Language Scheme of the individual organisation. In line with the target under the Service Transformation Agreement of migrating all business-facing content to a single site, all Welsh language content from the UK government will now be made available to Welsh businesses in one place. That will be through the FS4B Supersite rather than through businesslink.gov.uk (though Welsh businesses will be referred on from there) or through organisations' own websites. Responsibility for publishing UK Government content in Welsh lies with those organisations in line with their Welsh Language Schemes where they apply. The Welsh Assembly Government Deputy First Minister has written to all UK Government bodies asking them to endorse and work to the FS4B Supersite Welsh Language Policy Statement.

The Welsh Assembly Government will not be monitoring compliance with the relevant Welsh Language Schemes of UK Government bodies but will ensure that the relevant Welsh Language Scheme for each item of syndicated content can be easily identified by website users, so that any feedback can be easily directed to the relevant UK Government body and the Welsh Language Board.
