See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locale or the site linked in the email below for more information. <br/><br/>The Common Locale Data Repository (CLDR) is the where standard locales are maintained (and it in turn is hosted by the Unicode Consortium). <br/><br/>Completing and updating locales for various languages can be tedious, so tools have been developed. Such tools make it easier for language specialists or activists to contribute locale information - which is especially important for smaller language communities.
