<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">The first minister was making a statement on the Welsh Language policy when it considered the document TAN 20 which was published in its new form in the autumn of last year.</p>
<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">TAN 20 sets out how the Welsh language should be considered in local development plans.</p>
<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">New guidelines were published today to help local authorities to do this and these will be distributed to local authorities.</p>
<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">The first minister said "here, in the government, we accept our part in the challenge and we call on our partners across Wales to do the same."</p>
<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">The Labour member Keith Davies asked the first minister whether he agreed there is a need on emphasis "outside of school" because children do not make enough use of the Welsh language outside school boundaries.</p>
<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">The first minister replied that one way forward is that "businesses see more value for the Welsh."</p>
<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">The Plaid Cymru member Simon Thomas said he was "disappointed the statement today will lead to a further draft consultation" however, he added there is "more meat than we have seen before."</p>
<p style="color:rgb(80,80,80);font-family:Arial,Helmet,Freesans,sans-serif;font-size:1.077em;line-height:18px;margin:0px 0px 12px;padding:0px;clear:both">The first minister announced that he had set aside £ 1.6 million over the next two years to strengthen the links between the Welsh language and the economy and create more opportunity for people to use everyday language.</p>
